‘The Verification Panel’ is based on Pietro Longhi’s ‘Exhibition of a Rhinoceros’, painted in 1751, it hangs in London’s National Gallery – see above:


In the revisited and remodelled version, the cropped composition becomes more sinister. A new rhinoceros appears, overlooked by more worrying characters than in the original. The Verification Panel references a ‘seeing is believing’ assessment... having spent 30 years working in the FE education sector... the image might be interpreted as a visit by an External Validation Panel of Ofsted Assessors to a college.
